The most popular attractions for visitors to the Seven Stars are the Avebury Stone Circle, Lacock Village, Marlborough town centre and the Caen Hill Locks. But there is so much more to see!
Places of interest:
Avebury Stone Circle - just 10/15 mins drive up the road. Originally erected 4,500 years ago, Avebury is the largest stone circle in Europe. The stones encircle part of the village and the area is now part of a World Heritage Site. A fantastic walk, a lot of history and you might just see a bloke in a druid costume doing a little bit of mystical chanting!
Stonehenge - The most complete and famous of the stone circles - 20 mins drive.
Caen Hill Locks - this flight of 16 locks is just the other side of Devizes - about 20 mins drive away. It makes for an interesting walk or a relaxing stroll. You can admire the engineering. look at the huge fish in the ponds and have a cup of tea in the Lock Cottage Tearooms.
Lacock National Trust Village - now famous as the location for a number of period dramas as well as an early Harry Potter set. Picturesque streets and historic buildings set around a beautiful abbey.
Things to do:
Walking - there are a number of fantastic walks all around the area - including along the Kennet & Avon Canal and down the new national walk 'The Great Stones Way'.
Horse-riding - visit the Pewsey Vale Riding Centre in Stanton
Paragliding - fly the Marlborough Downs, courtesy of Cloudbase Paragliding
Book Binding Courses - strange but true! There is an excellent range of bookbinding courses available 2 mins up the road, from Shepherds Bookbinders
Fishing - visit the local trout lake in Manningford and have the chef cook your catch on your return!
